Features of BEng programmes are as follows:

  • Contemporary Engineering education nurturing future leaders
  • Broad-based engineering education with a wide range of choices
  • Stimulating learning experience
  • Innovation and Entrepreneurship
  • Academic advising
  • Options of minor programmes

Programme Aims and Features

BENG(IELM) focuses on technology and management tools that integrate the whole life cycle of product and service design and development, procurement, operations and logistics, from raw materials to customer satisfaction. The programme aims at developing students’ ability to acquire the relevant skills for the global business environment, together with an integrated view of problem-solving in industrial, logistics and service systems.

Students learn not only to work as team players, but also to acquire an understanding of value-adding business activities and the necessary entrepreneurial skills to identify potential opportunities for organisations. Graduates of this programme are expected to have a keen awareness of career growth, challenges and opportunities, as well as a strong desire to be future leaders who are achievement-oriented and far-sighted.

The curriculum emphasises a holistic education that brings together professional knowledge and entrepreneurial skills. The main areas of expertise developed in the curriculum are:

  • Industrial engineering – operational research, system simulation and analysis, man-machine interaction, product design and manufacturing, production planning, risk management, enterprise-resource management, and system integration and analysis;
  • Engineering management – engineering economics, project management, technology management, product design and manufacturing, operations management, and enterprise information management;
  • Logistics and supply-chain management – market analysis, customer relationship management, sourcing decisions, supplier selection, warehouse management, transportation logistics, inventory control, change management, planning and organisational skills;
  • Interpersonal skills – written and oral communication, analytical skills, group dynamics, problem solving, and international and cultural awareness.

Graduates can, with proper training and working experience, obtain the status of Registered Professional Engineer. This professional status is recognised through the Washington Accord by the signatories of engineering organisations in the UK, Ireland, the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa.

In addition, graduates satisfy the academic requirements for membership of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport.
