The MSc (EnvMan) degree programme was introduced in September 1989. The overall objective of the programme is to respond to Hong Kong's need for more trained professionals in the field of environmental management. It seeks to provide students with a comprehensive perspective on environmental protection and management issues and to equip them to participate effectively in the resolution of such issues in both public and private sectors. The multi-disciplinary curriculum covers a broad range of subject areas, including natural sciences, engineering, social sciences, environmental policy, and law.

Directed studies, projects and dissertations provide opportunities for specialized work on specific topics. Internship opportunities are provided for full time students.

This programme is jointly taught by the School of Biological Sciences, Centre for Civil Society and Governance, the Departments of Civil Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering, and teachers from the Faculty of Law. Experienced practitioners are also engaged for some of the courses.
