Practical learning
Students are provided with opportunities to complete a professional internship, overseas field trip, and/or exchange in their third year of study.
Students will divide their time between academic lectures and surveying studios. The studios provide a space for students to experience the programme’s interdisciplinary and student-centred approach in action and test the theories through real-life case studies and practical project work. Two PDF files for this part if possible:
Under normal circumstances, the majority of our students would participate in a semester-long exchange programme in their third year of study, visiting universities all around the world and exchanging knowledge and practices. Since credits taken in the exchange programme can be transferred, students who participate in overseas exchange can graduate as scheduled. This provides experiential learning platforms for students to enhance their professional, academic and personal development.
Our programme also allows students in their third year to take a credit bearing course, Professional Practice, which requires students to gain professional experience during their internship in companies within the real estate and construction sector.
BSc(Surveying) is recognised by the Hong Kong Institute of Surveyors (HKIS), Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB), and Pacific Association of Quantity Surveyors (PAQS). The HKIS accreditation covers FIVE divisions, namely General Practice (GP), Quantity Surveying (QS), Building Surveying (BS), Planning and Development (PD), and Property and Facility Management (PFM). Upon graduation, students will have the absolute freedom to join any of the above-mentioned surveying streams. Students will also gain full professional status following approved practical experience and successful professional assessment by the HKIS, RICS, CIOB, or PAQS.
The programme sets students up for employment opportunities with developers, consultancy firms, property investment companies, property management companies, financial institutions, building contractors, etc. Alternatively, students can manage real estate assets for retail chains, hotel groups, and other companies outside the industry.
Students may also join the public sector in the lands, buildings, rating and valuation, architectural services, housing, or urban renewal departments, or pursue a career as a building, general practice, quantity, planning and development, or property and facilities management surveyor.
According to the latest statistics, around 90% of our students received 2 job offers or more. Around 60% received 3 job offers or more. Employment ratio between the public and private sectors is around 40:60.
