Where engineers master AI for real-world applications: 4+1 Dual Degree

The Bachelor of Engineering and Master of Science in Engineering in Artificial Intelligence in Engineering programme is designed to nurture engineers with cross-disciplinary, master’s-level knowledge and skills in AI. Students will complete a BEng major and then pursue an MSc(Eng) in Artificial Intelligence in Engineering within 4+1 years. The programme integrates core engineering knowledge with applied AI methods to tackle real-world engineering challenges. It offers an AI-focused curriculum and the opportunity to progress to an MSc(Eng) in AI, along with a master's entrance scholarship of HKD $120,000.
 

Aiming to nurture highly interdisciplinary engineers equipped with modern Artificial Intelligence (AI) skills, students will receive rigorous training through one of our BEng programmes and earn a BEng degree. During the four years of study, students will learn fundamental and theoretical AI knowledge, along with discipline-specific engineering applications using AI techniques, to fulfill the degree requirements for both the BEng and MSc in AI in Engineering degrees.

A well-rounded AI curriculum offering comprehensive training in engineering applications, starting with Artificial Intelligence Literacy courses, followed by introductory AI courses, discipline-specific AI electives, and an AI-related capstone project at the undergraduate level, with continuity into postgraduate study.
 

1)    Flexibility in Major Selection 

• Students can choose Civil Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Data and System Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or another faculty-based programme, Robotics Engineering^ as their BEng degree.

2)    AI-Focused Curriculum Design 

• A well-rounded AI curriculum providing comprehensive training in engineering applications, starting with Artificial Intelligence Literacy courses, followed by introductory AI courses, discipline-specific AI electives, and an AI-related capstone project at the undergraduate level, with continuity into postgraduate study.

3)    BEng (X) and MSc(Eng) in AI Dual Degree in 4+1 Years

• Students can freely opt out of this BEng X + MScEng AIE scheme with no penalties, i.e. they can successfully earn their bachelor degree after completing the necessary requirements in their chosen major.

4)    HKD $120,000 Master Degree Programme Entrance Scholarship

• Eligibility: Students with a cumulative GPA (CGPA) of 2.7 or higher in the undergraduate study who are admitted to the MSc(Eng) in Artificial Intelligence in Engineering are eligible for the scholarship.

5)    Eligible for the CSHK HKU Engineering Flagship Programme Scholarship and Placement 

• During their studies at HKU Engineering, Elite students will be eligible to apply and may be selected for a one-off HKD $40,000 scholarship sponsored by the China State Construction Engineering (Hong Kong) Limited (CSHK).
• In addition, they may be selected for an exclusive two month paid internship opportunity.

Following graduation with your BEng degree, you will be eligible to apply for the corresponding professional recognition with the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE). 

Graduates are expected to have great flexibility in their career choices and development. In addition to the existing opportunities in engineering sectors, students may also choose to serve in the business, research, education, social and community sectors. In the past, around 16% of the BEng graduates pursued further studies in Hong Kong or overseas.
