Learn Economics in a global centre
Our Bachelor of Economics (BEcon) and Bachelor of Economics and Finance (BEcon&Fin) will teach you economic and financial theories and practical applications to unpack challenges in trade, banking, labour, and financial institutions. Through the BEcon programme, you will learn to not only evaluate the economic performance of important regional markets but also analyse and understand human behaviour and social interactions. The BEcon&Fin programme recognises the significance of economics both in its own right and as a foundation for the study of finance.

Over four years of study, you will receive training in economic theories, statistical tools, and the practical application of concepts. Both programmes have a single-major curriculum structure that gives you the flexibility to pursue a second major or a combination of minors, provided you meet the requirements.
The School offers a dual-degree ‘Future Leaders’ programme in collaboration with Peking University (PKU) – integrating the strengths of two leading business schools in Hong Kong and Mainland China. Split your time between Hong Kong and Beijing and earn a BEcon&Fin degree from HKU and a Bachelor of Arts and Management (BMgmt) from PKU. The four-year programme will empower you with a robust understanding of both operation and management styles and business models in two disparate markets.
Participate in summer exchange programmes at one of our world-class partner universities or gain experience during internships at leading companies in Hong Kong and Mainland China. Your theoretical and hands-on knowledge of economics, finance, and management combined with interpersonal skills acquired in a multicultural context will empower you to emerge as a highly competitive and capable business leader with a global outlook.
The BEcon&Fin programme is a designated Chartered Financial Analysts (CFA) university affiliation programme recognised by the CFA institute. You will cover a significant portion of the CFA Programme Candidate Body of Knowledge (CBOK) to earn a practical, relevant, and thought-provoking investment education. You will also be eligible to apply for a CFA scholarship towards your CFA Level 1 examination.
Students of the BEcon/BEcon&Fin programme are eligible to enrol in the CGMA® Finance Leadership Program and kickstart their journey to become a member of Chartered Institute of Management Accountants and a Chartered Global Management Accountant while they are studying in the University.
The programme will prepare you to excel in a wide variety of careers. Graduates have gone on to secure employment in banks, financial institutions, and major corporations like Bloomberg, Goldman Sachs, JPMorgan, Morgan Stanley, and PwC, among many others. Alternatively, you can pursue a career in government or education, or continue your studies at universities locally or abroad.
