Developing and Honing Business Skills and Acquiring a Global Perspective

Saksham, a third-year HKU-PKU Future Leaders Dual Degree Programme student from India, was immediately attracted into this programme and this became one of the highlights of his university life. After taking the Indian CBSE exam, he was successfully admitted into HKU under the Bachelor of Economics and Finance Programme and that is when the dual degree programme came to his sight of attention. He got to learn more about the features of the HKU-PKU Future Leaders Dual Degree Programme, which comes with an opportunity to earn two degrees from highly acclaimed universities in Asia, while developing and honing business skills and acquiring a global perspective.

For the past 2 years in Hong Kong, Saksham has been developing his experiences through various internship programmes, research projects, winter camps and competitions. He utilized accessible resources in Hong Kong, such as interning with Alcodes, a consultancy start-up in Cyberport, where he incorporates blockchain into their daily operations as a project executive intern during the Summer of 2022. Saksham also broadened his horizons by participating in the HKSTP InnoX Winter Camp 2022, performing financial analysis and won as the runner-up. He further expanded his connections in the industry by working as an audit and finance intern in a local firm.

Saksham is looking forward to going to PKU in the upcoming February, which is located in Beijing, the capital city of China where the ancient culture and modern civilization are well integrated. Peking University in itself has a big campus with acres of land that contains a lot of natural scenery, tourist attractions and infrastructures as well. Saksham added “I think one of the biggest advantages of being in this HKU-PKU Programme is we have a cohort of people all around the world, so it's really a global environment. There's a lot to learn from each other because everyone brings, you know, something different to the group. You have rich educational resources and special kind of experiences, so it's a great opportunity to learn from distinct people.” He was also impressed by how the teaching style in Peking University is inculcating like how they want students to actually decide what they want to learn.

Upon graduating from the HKU-PKU Future Leaders Dual Degree Programme, Saksham plans on getting into the private equity sector. With his affectionate passion for both places, he will be open to both the job markets in Hong Kong, as well as Mainland China. Through the dual degree programme, Saksham is gaining better and bigger economic insights into both markets, which he considers to be a very strong advantage for him. Lastly, Saksham concludes his experience by saying “I feel that the undergraduate is a time where I can explore different things, take certain risks and maybe even try a different curriculum. Plus getting two degrees instead of one in the same time period will definitely be an advantage for you.”
