Master of Dental Surgery in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery

The Master of Dental Surgery in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery [MDS(OralMaxFacSur)] is a three-year full-time programme designed to enable candidates to achieve an advanced level of knowledge and competence in oral and maxillofacial surgery. The programme includes a prescribed course of study and a supervised research project.

The programme aims to enable students to acquire familiarity with most pathological conditions affecting the mouth and jaws; an understanding of the principles of patient management and experience of in-patient care; basic skills in oral surgery and selected aspects of maxillofacial surgery. Students will also gain knowledge of the relevant literature and the ability to assess such literature critically.

Upon completion of the programme, students who desire to do so, can use it as a basis for further training to achieve accreditation as a specialist oral and maxillofacial surgeon in Hong Kong.
