Programme Introduction
This double degree programme enables elite students to complete 2 degrees (Bachelor of Science and Master of Research) at accelerated pace.
Students can learn from Science Masters in this research-oriented programme, with ample research opportunities in our flagship Young Scientist Scheme (YSS), to enhance their scientific method and research skills.
The programme focuses on discipline-based intensive study. Students will take courses for both the Bachelor of Science and the Master of Research.
In the Bachelor of Science, you can choose from 7 intensive majors, and take university education courses and other electives.
Your choice of Intensive Majors includes Biological SSciences, Chemistry, Ecology and Biodiversity, Geology, Mathematics, Molecular Biology and Biotechnology, and Physics.
Students of the 6688 Science Master Class will be enrolled in the Young Scientists Scheme automatically, enjoying early access to research experiences – mentorship, research fellowships, exclusive experiential learning placements, and global exchange opportunities at respected universities like Cambridge, Stanford, and Yale.
In the Master of Research, you will also take courses in research ethics and research postgraduate studies, and conduct a research project.
Five of our Majors are accredited by professional bodies overseas:
- Major in Chemistry (Intensive), accredited by the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC), UK
- Exclusively for students who wish to specialise in chemistry
- Students who completed the RSC-accredited chemistry programme will be awarded a certificate by the Department of Chemistry, with authorisation by the RSC, to recognise their achievements
- Majors in Biological Sciences (Intensive), Ecology & Biodiversity (Intensive), and Molecular Biology & Biotechnology (Intensive), accredited by the Royal Society of Biology (RSB), UK
- It is noteworthy that the Ecology & Biodiversity Major is the first programme of its type accredited by RSB in Asia
- Graduates will receive one year of guest membership of RSB at the Associate level and this will help them to:
- stay up to date with what is happening across the life sciences
- gain additional recognition for their skills and experience
- develop their professional network and
- demonstrate their support for the future of biology
- Major in Geology (Intensive), accredited by The Geological Society, UK
- Students completing specified geology courses will receive an accredited degree which provides an accelerated route to achieve the qualification
- Qualification recognised internationally and in Hong Kong, and chartered geologists are regarded as professionally equivalent to chartered engineers
- The Faculty had an essentially 100% employment rate (including further studies) in the past decade
- The Programme builds a consortium of young researchers to foster the cross-fertilisation of innovative ideas and facilitates the development of possible multidisciplinary projects
- Our science graduates are often preferred by employers because of their numerical and analytical skills, logical thinking, and knowledge of the latest developments in science and technology
