The Master of Science in Library and Information Management [MSc(LIM)] programme is designed to prepare candidates from all backgrounds and occupations for professional work in the fastest-growing area of the economy, the information sector. The programme provides an opportunity to develop leadership capacities in library and information management.
The MSc(LIM) programme is professionally accredited by the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals (CILIP) of the UK and the accreditation assures that our programme provides excellent preparation for professional practice and will be a strong foundation for anybody entering the library, data, information, and knowledge sectors.
The Faculty is a member of the iSchools. We are recognised as the information professional who possesses the expertise of understanding of the users and users of information, the nature of information itself, as well as information technologies and their applications. We are the only institution in Hong Kong that joined the iSchools as a member, along with other top-tier members such as University of California- Berkeley, Carnegie Mellon University, Cornell University, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and Syracuse University.
The MSc(LIM) programme has a modular structure, including a number of taught courses and a capstone project or dissertation.
The programme extends over one academic year of full-time study or two to four years of part-time study. The programme has three semesters for each academic year. The three semesters begin in September, January and May.

Classes normally will be held on weekdays from 6:30pm to 9:30pm and on Saturday mornings and afternoons at HKU Campus. Some day-time classes will be held on weekdays*.

Programme Entrance Requirements
A candidate shall satisfy both the University Admission Requirements and the Programme Specific Requirements as listed below:
1. comply with the General Regulations and the Regulations for Taught Postgraduate Curricula;
2. hold a Bachelor's degree of this University or a qualification of equivalent standard from this University or another comparable institution accepted for this purpose;
3. for qualification from a university or comparable institution outside Hong Kong where the language of teaching and/or examination is not English, a candidate is required to obtain a score of 550 or above (paper-based test) or 80 or above (internet-based) in the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)#; a minimum overall band of 6 with no subtest lower than 5.5 in the International English Language Testing System (IELTS)#; or Grade C or above in either the Overseas General Certificate of Education, the International General Certificate of Secondary Education, or the Cambridge Test of Proficiency in English Language; and
4. satisfy the examiners in a qualifying examination, if required.
#For admission, only TOEFL or IELTS scores recorded in the two years before the date of application will be considered.
